A powerful earthquake measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale struck Indonesia’s Tanimbar Islands region on Monday, as reported by the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ). The quake occurred at a shallow depth of 10 km, increasing its intensity near the epicentre. However, Indonesia’s own geophysics agency reported it as a 6.7 magnitude quake at a depth of 98 km, clarifying that there was no tsunami threat. Despite the significant magnitude, no immediate reports of casualties or major damage were released by local authorities.
